Did you know…?

Dehumidifiers Reduce Dust Mites. Are you allergic to dust and cannot figure out how to eliminate it from the home? A dehumidifier can do the job. Dust mites cannot live below 45% humidity. So, running a dehumidifier set at 40% will begin to eliminate dust mites from the home. Another top tip is before starting the machine for the first time, vacuum all the carpets and upholstery in the house and change all bed linens. These are prime sources of dust mites and the linens can trap moisture.

Have you ever tried…?
Apples to Decrease Respiratory Problems. Apples are a wonderful source of flavonoids. Flavonoids are like vitamins for the lungs. Eating just one apple, a couple of times a week can reduce the chances of coming down with a respiratory cold by up to 32%. Apple cider has more than two times the flavonoids of apple juice, so sip and enjoy.

Thought of the Month….

..that if you become ruffled with every comment that you consider a ‘slight,’ you will never find peace.

Nor will you find it by always separating yourself from those who ruffle you. You can only end so many friendships before you find yourself very much alone.

You can keep making new friends, of course, but sooner or later they will ruffle you — and then what?

Perhaps the better course might be to let the ruffle go. People rarely mean it when they do that, and a touch of gentle tolerance and easy forgiveness every day is even better than an apple…

Peanut Butter (Soy Butter / Almond Butter / Nutella) Can Cure Hiccups. At first, hiccups are fun and then they move to annoying. When you cannot break the hiccups, try eating a thick nut butter like peanut butter. Place one large tablespoon in the mouth and hold for 10 seconds. Then, try to swallow the butter whole. The hiccups will stop every time…. so they say!

Have you ever tried…?

Herbs and Vitamins for hair loss. Men and women alike lose hair as they age. For some people, this hair loss becomes noticeable before they would like it to. Thought of the Month….

…that love is the centre and the core of everything, and that Self is the place where all love must begin.

Those who love others grandly are those who love themselves grandly. Those who have a high toleration and acceptance of others are those who have a high toleration and acceptance of themselves.

You cannot show another a part of you that you cannot show yourself. Therefore, begin where all growth, where all evolution, where all love must begin: with the person in the mirror.

Will you not love yourself grandly today? For the world’s sake?

Facial scrubs do not have to empty the wallet. Most facial scrubs are very similar to cleansers but with some kind of abrasive or exfoliating agent.  Which means if you’ve not yet picked up a scrub that is suitable for your skin but you want an exfoliator, try making your own – just add a pinch of sugar to the palm of your hand and mix with your cleanser. Try a small test patch and then apply to the face & neck in small circular motions then wash off.

Have you ever tried…?

Sandalwood Oil for a Chest Cold? Sandalwood is a natural oil that can help relieve chest congestion during a cold or flu. All you have to do is rub the oil on the skin or create a compress from warm oil or cold oil and apply to the chest area. The congestion will fade away, naturally.

Thought of the Month….

…….that everything is perfect Right Here, Right Now. And Right Here Right Now is all there is.

Forget about the past. It does not exist, except in your memory. Drop it. And stop worrying about how you’re going to get through tomorrow. Life is going on Right

Here, Right Now — pay attention to that and all will be well.

Embrace the present moment with gratefulness and wonder, and you will turn it into whatever you have been waiting for.

Did you know…?

We are busy people.  Some of us get very little respite from our busy days. We work, plan, socialise, meet, cater, parent, befriend, chat, run errands, oh this list is endless!

We need time for ourselves, as without it we can feel frustrated, tired, overwhelmed and out of balance. So take 15 minutes a day to just do something that you want to do. Be with yourself. Have a cup of tea, tend to the garden, go for a walk, have a bath, listen to music… whatever you want to do as long as it is for you and with just you.

Also if you are finding yourself overwhelmed and frustrated take a five minute breather from it all. Spend five minutes just relaxing and focusing on your breath, clear your mind and try to rebalance yourself. Give it a try! See if it makes any differences in the way you face your day.

Have you ever tried…?

Banana Peels to treat poison ivy… there is nothing worse than working in the garden only to hit that patch of poison ivy. The oils of the poison ivy plant quickly cause an itchy, burning rash sure to spread all over the body. When the skin calls for relief, bananas can help. No, you do not eat the bananas.  Instead you rub the inside of the peel all over the skin. The banana and the oils of the peel relieve the itchy feeling and help the rash to clear up almost instantly. For added benefit, the banana peel works on bug bites too!

Banana skins can remove a splinter. If you have a splinter in any part of the body, a small piece of banana skin can work out that splinter overnight. It does not matter what type of splinter you have – it could be metal, glass or wood – banana skins have been known to pull splinters out overnight. To try simply cut a small piece of banana skin and apply to the area of the skin where the splinter is located. Cover with a band aid and wait. In the morning, the splinter will be ready to be removed. If the splinter is very deep, more than one application may be needed or you may need to see our doctor

Thought of the Month….

……. that tomorrow is the most important day of your life.

Your greatest moment, your greatest achievement, your greatest adventure lies in the future, never in the past.

There is a new you waiting to be created tomorrow. That is the joy and wonder of the dawn. That is the excitement of it!

Forget about yesterday! What is the grandest version of the greatest vision you ever held about Who You Are going to be tomorrow? That is the only question that matters.

Did you know…?

Many people still use alcohol to clean oily, acne prone skin but did you know that treating skin with a drying agent like alcohol will only make acne problems worse? Alcohol dries the skin and increases the number of flaking skin cells. These skin cells are at the heart of acne. When the skin cells block the sebaceous (oil) glands of the face, the backup causes what we all know as a pimple. The more dry skin cells, the more chance of the pores becoming blocked and causing more acne.

Have you ever tried…?

Vitamin E is great for hands. After a trip to the salon, I noticed the manicurist placing a serum with Vitamin E in it on my nails before filing down the rough skin around the fingertips. Vitamin E is a natural moisturizer and antioxidant that can help to soften the skin of the hands and fingers. Vitamin E also makes cuticle removing easier and less painful.

Thought of the Month….

…that yearning for a new way will not produce it. Only ending the old way can do that.

You cannot hold onto the old all the while declaring that you want something new. The old will defy the new; the old will deny the new; the old will decry the new.

There is only one way to bring in the new. You must make room for it. (Neale Donald Walsche)

About Meditation and the Benefits

meditatingMeditation is good for personal development and feeling of calm and peace. Regular meditation has been known to greatly reduce depression.  If you haven’t done meditation before you need to build up slowly, and find a way of meditating which suits you personally. Feelings of emotional discomfort can accompany meditation; it may bring blocked issues to the forefront of your mind, which you may find a need to heal. The conscious mind is the tip of the iceberg, the unconscious mind lies beneath this, and beneath that lies the level of consciousness of which we are all joined, the universal consciousness.

There are different levels of the mind, caused by the different brainwaves explained below.

Beta (13- 40 cycles per second)
Beta is associated with our waking activity. During a day we experience all the brainwave patterns with a predominance of Beta.

Alpha (8-13 cycles per second)
The first pattern discovered in 1908 by an Austrian Psychiatrist named Hans Berger. Alpha pattern appears when in wakefulness where there is a relaxed and effortless alertness. Light meditation and day dreaming. It is recommended practicing your creative visualization and auto-suggestion technique in alpha state.

Theta (4-7 cycles per second)
Associated with creativity, dreams and Extra-sensory perception for the student the theta state is something to learn to go at will.

To obtain these different levels you have to quiet the mind by concentrating on a mantra or your breathing. The times you feel most resistant to meditating is the time your body will need it the most. Meditation puts you in contact with the things that are buried in the unconscious mind. The reason we bring our subconscious painful memories to the surface is because they are affecting our lives today. Just because we do not remember them does not mean they are not influencing our lives. Many of the beliefs upon which we run our lives rest on decisions we made as a child. Meditation can help you work through and overcome fears that stop us being our true selves. Meditation also helps you find that place within where you feel calm and peaceful at all times, even when life is tough. You will feel happier, be able to make changes when you want to, accept and be in the present and plan for you future.

Research – Benefits to the body

Improved Health
A study of health insurance statistics of 2000 people practising meditation consistently over a five year period revealed that their rate of hospitalisation was less than half of the other groups with comparable age, gender, profession, and insurance terms. Meditators also had fewer incidents of illness in 17 medical treatment categories. Some of the results were quite outstanding; 87% less admissions for cardiovascular disease, 55% less cancer, 87% less for diseases of the nervous system, 73% less for nose throat and lung problems. Psychosomatic Medicine 1987.

Lower Blood Pressure
At the Harvard Medical School Dr. Herbert Benson found that meditators develop what he calls the “relaxation response” to difficult or dangerous situations. This is a much healthier response than the very common “fight or flight” reaction. He also observed that during meditation the heart rate decreases on average by three beats a minute, and that the rate of breathing also decreases. The blood pressure of those who have hypertension is reduced during meditation. Dr.Benson found that all the traditional methods of meditation evoke this response. He also found that four basic elements are needed. They are in a quiet environment, an object for the attention to dwell on, a comfortable posture and, above all a non-discriminatory attitude towards meditation. This is exactly what the Buddha taught two thousand five hundred years ago.

Reduced Anxiety
A study conducted at Stanford University reported a reduced level of anxiety among the participants who meditated. Journal of Clinical Psychology (1989)

Decreased Stress
A study of meditators showed a reduction in plasma cortisol, a stress hormone, during and after meditation. Hormones and Behaviour (1978)

Deep Rest
A scientific measure of deep rest is the amount of basal skin resistance and lower respiration rates. Experiments comparing meditation to resting with eyes closed have shown that meditation is significantly more effective. Similarly meditation also reduces the amount of lactate (a root cause of anxiety, panic attacks and high blood pressure). American Psychologist (1987)

Reversal of the Aging Process
A study group of long-term meditators (practising meditation for five years or more) were physiologically twelve years younger than their chronological age, as measured by reduction of blood pressure, and better near-point vision and auditory discrimination. Short-term meditators were physiologically five years younger than their chronological age. The study controlled for the effects of diet and exercise. International Journal of Neuroscience 1982.

Increased Perception and Memory
College students instructed in meditation displayed significant improvements in performance over a two-week period on a perceptual and short-term memory test involving the identification of familiar letter sequences presented rapidly. They were compared with subjects randomly assigned to a routine of twice-daily rest with eyes closed, and with subjects who made o change in their daily routine. Memory and Cognition (1982)

In a basic Energy Healing session you will be encouraged to relax and go to the Alpha level, where  the mind, body and spirit work together, the result is a balance of thought, awareness and well-being that is unmatched. It is in this state that healing can occur on multiple levels. This includes our seven chakras.

Please contact me to find out more information on meditation or to book a session.
