How Meditation and Energy Healing can Relieve your Arthritic Pain

Meditation is a way of training the mind to be still, and focus on your breath, a candle flame, another object, or voice. By doing this, we learn to relax and be in the present moment.

When we are stressed, we release stress hormones, which cause inflammation and pain, irritating your joints more.  By relaxing your body and reducing your stress, your body will stop releasing stress hormones that aggravate your joints’ pain.  Meditation helps to release endorphins, our natural pain reliever into our bloodstream. These endorphins will help the muscle and tissue around the joints be more relaxed, and your brain will then be calmer, so you feel less pain.

Studies show that mindfulness/meditation stress reduction can reduce the pain being felt in the body. Our minds are a lot more powerful than we give them credit for. Now I am not saying everything is mind over matter, but we all know a cut often does not hurt until we see it bleeding. Meditation or healing will not cure arthritis, you will still need the drugs prescribed for you, but it can do a lot to help you manage the pain.

Chakras

Reiki and Energy healing are two very relaxing therapies. They help with dis-ease in the body. Everything is energy vibrating at different frequencies. Therefore, with energy healing, the therapist runs energy from the earth through your body and energy centres (Chakras) to help bring them back to their optimum frequency.  The environment, our thoughts, what we eat and drink all unbalances our bodies. Regular basic healing sessions can help relieve your pain and stress. Should you want to go deeper to resolve actual energy blocks, this will help keep your body balanced longer.

Effortless Ways to Improve Your Self-Esteem Fast

Self Esteem – what is it?

Self-esteem is the opinion we have of ourselves.

When your self-esteem is healthy, you tend to feel positive about yourself and about life in general. It makes you more resilient to life.

When your self-esteem is low, we tend to see ourselves and our life more negatively and critically. We also feel less able to take on the challenges in life and are less resilient.

Causes of Low Self Esteem

In childhood, we absorbed the positive or negative messages around us, from our teachers, siblings, parents, teachers, and possibly the media.

The most common message we take on is “We are not good enough”. You could never please your parents, teachers or other adults, therefore, creating thoughts about how we are expected to be or not be.

Life events, losing loved ones, serious illness will also impact our self-esteem.

How Low Self-Esteem Affects us?

Low self esteem or a lack of confidence encourages us to: –

  • Hideaway from groups or social situations.
  • Avoid trying new things.
  • Prevents you from challenging yourself.

These will temporarily make you feel safe, but hiding and avoiding situations, reinforces your doubts and fears, teaching you the only way to cope is to avoid people and situations. This will possibly lead to depression anxiety and habits like drinking and smoking.

Improving Your Self Esteem

Ideas to boost self-esteem and confidence.

  • Identify and list the negative beliefs that you have about yourself.
  • Think about when you first had these beliefs and why.
  • Now list positive evidence to counteract the negative beliefs.
  • List all the positive things about you, example “I am kind”, “I am good at ….”
  • Keep this list somewhere you see it regularly.
  • Add to this list each day and pick 5 to focus your attention on. Reminding yourself, you are GOOD ENOUGH.
  • Try to avoid spending time with people who bring your mood down. Let them know how you feel about the way they talk to you.
  • When you listen to that inner voice that is being very self-critical, think of how you would talk to a friend, and talk kindly to ourselves.
  • Stop saying yes to please others, when you don’t want to do something, let people know honestly how you feel. Learn to say no, so you do not become overburdened and stressed.
  • Remember, no one likes to be outside their comfort zone, by giving yourself a challenge and achieving your goal will increase your self-esteem. Start with small challenges and build to more complex ones.

5 Tips to Stay Positive

The philosopher Marcus Aurelius quoted “Our life is what our thoughts make it” Many others have written similar quotes since.

Do you always look for the problem, or do you look for a solution?

Are you a glass half empty or half full person?

Many studies have shown the benefits of being a positive thinker, mainly a much lower risk of dying from death’s main causes.

  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Various types of Cancer
  • Infection
  • Respiratory diseases

I am not going into detail on the above diseases, there is loads of information on the internet to read.

Other benefits of being positive from studies are: –

  • Improved quality of life
  • Increased energy levels
  • Improved psychological and physical health.
  • Quicker recovery from injury and illness
  • Fewer colds
  • Less chance of depression and anxiety
  • Improved management of stress and being more resilient.
  • Living a healthier longer life.

Thinking Positively

Focus on the happy times.

In life, we all have good and bad memories.  To stay positive, we need to focus on finding the silver lining of the situation. When an event is cancelled, don’t take it personally, think about an activity you can do instead that you enjoy.

Gratitude

Keeping a gratitude journal, or any other way of practising gratitude has been proven to reduce stress, increase self-esteem and resilience, to help you cope when life throws you difficult times. Write of think of people and all the situations and things you find comfort or happiness with. Do this once a day, it can be part of meditation too. The list can be simple things like thanking a person for helping you, the love you receive from your pets, the joy of your garden.

Laughter

Laughing lowers stress, anxiety, depression, as well as improving your mood and self-esteem.  When things are hard to find the funny side and laugh, I am sure many of you have experienced this when in a group, how laughing instantly changes the mood and the situation becomes easier.

Positive people

Positivity is as contagious as negativity. Therefore, consider spending time with positive people. It has been said you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

Positive Self-Talk

We are our own worst enemies; we talk to ourselves in ways we would not consider talking to others. You need to become aware of this talk and change the negative statements immediately with a positive one.  There are also phrases and words we should try to avoid, “I can’t”, “Should”, “problem”, “if”, “just”, “if only”, “but”, “someday”, “why me”, “I don’t know” are some, read a blog post here for 21 words and Phrases.

Massage Your Feet to Help Connect to the Earth’s Energy.

Massaging our feet ourselves or having someone do it for us is an excellent way to open our energy centres in our feet and some of our meridians so more of the earth’s energy can enter our bodies.

Start with which ever foot you like.

  1. Place your foot on to the opposite thigh if you are massaging your own feet.
  2. With your thumbs, circle all around the ball of the foot and pushing up your toes with firm pressure, do this for a couple of minutes.
  3. We then use a scissor action, moving thumbs out from the centre to the sides, do this for the ball of the foot and move down to the arch for a minute.
  4. Now take your knuckles and knead the arch, from the top of the heel to the ball of the foot. This can be done with a ball or the back of a spoon. Massaging the plantar fascia helps to stretch this ligament, doing this makes it less likely to become inflamed and cause pain when walking, known as Plantar Fasciitis.
  5. Now do the other foot.

Doing this ten-minute routine regularly will soothe aching feet, preventing plantar fasciitis, helping you walk better, improving your posture.

Opening the chakras in your feet, will help you feel more connected, help you heal quicker, improve your sleep, and focus during the day, you will also feel more benefit from meditation and other spiritual activities.

Once you have opened your feet chakras, it is good to walk on grass barefoot and really connect with the earth. If you do not have grass accessible then use a wooden or stone floor. As a last resort use a carpeted floor.

Positioning of the Chakras in the Foot.

Anxiety and Exercise

Exercise is a great way to maintain your mental fitness.

Research has shown how exercise helps reduce fatigue, improves alertness and focus, which in turn reduces stress. When you exercise your body produces endorphins, this feel-good hormone acts like a painkiller and helps you sleep, which again will help reduce stress and anxiety.

Unfortunately, stress and anxiety are part of our lives, we all have them but deal with them in different ways. A simple 10-minute brisk walk can relieve anxiety and depression, if you can focus on your senses during your walk, listening, smelling, and feeling the environment around you, bringing you into the present moment. This may only be temporary relief, but done regularly, you may find your anxiety attacks to lessen.

Find forms of exercise you enjoy, if you prefer gentle keep fit, running or jogging, make time to do this each day. If you have not done any exercise for some time start slowly, it takes up to eight weeks to get back to into regular fitness program.

Not everyone’s anxiety will be improved by exercise, however, if you are mobile and have no other health concerns, being physically active should be encouraged. With exercise, we will start to feel better about our bodies which may help to improve your mood.

If you suffer anxiety and have mobility issues, I suggest trying to find a hobby, like drawing, painting, knitting etc. so you can focus your mind away from your anxiety and worry.

If you are still struggling to control your anxiety, meditation, or energy healing may be able to help you. Email rosemary@soul-essence.com for more information.

The Effect of Anxiety on Your Body

Stress hormones and their effects on anxiety.

Anxiety and panic attacks create the “flight or fight” response in our body.  Our brain then releases the stress hormones into our nervous system, like adrenaline and cortisol. This is helpful if we are in a genuine stressful situation. Constant exposure to these hormones is not good for our bodies, they can cause hyperactivity, weight gain and high blood pressure to name a few..

Hormones which are released when stress of having an anxiety or panic attack: –

Adrenaline increases your heart rate, elevates your blood pressure, and boosts energy supplies.

Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, increases sugars (glucose) in the bloodstream, enhances your brain’s use of glucose and increases the availability of substances that repair tissues.

Norepinephrine is released from the adrenal glands, most of the norepinephrine in the blood comes from the nerve endings. Together with adrenaline, norepinephrine increases heart rate and blood pumping from the heart. It also increases blood pressure and helps break down fat and increase blood sugar levels to provide more energy to the body.

Why do we suffer anxiety?

Often anxiety and panic attacks are bought on by perceived situations that we are thinking or believe will happen.  This is why meditation and mindfulness can help, both of these bringing you into the present. When we are faced with an event, our brains are like a computer and go through events in our past, these past memories can shape our focus on the present and future.  These past thoughts can then create our anxiety and panic attacks. If our subconscious believes some thing will happen, we then worry and can have anxiety.

By trying to focus on the present and use the past to learn from and improve, can be immensely helpful to ease your anxiety. It helps you retrain your brain.  Meditation and Energy Healing can help re-programme your subconscious.

My mantra is: – You cannot change the past you can only learn from it and change the future.

How Mindfulness and Meditation can Help your Anxiety.

Anxiety can drain you mentally and energetically.  However, research has proven meditation and mindfulness can reduce your anxiety.

Mindfulness and meditation can be done in the comfort of your home with little equipment. You can use mindfulness, throughout the day. When you are making a drink really listen to the water being poured into the cup, and the smell of the coffe or tea, the same when you are making dinner. What ever you are doing try to come out the auto pilot mode.

Your Intention.

Start the day with setting your intention. Your intention can be repeated as an affirmation or written down in your journal, you can even write on a post it and put it some where you will see it regularly.

Your intentions can be, I look for the positives in negative situations. I accept myself and know I am enough, 1 will drink enough water today, I will do my best to achieve my goals. Make it something relevant to what causes your anxiety.

Meditate or Practise Mindfulness Each Day.

You can use an app for meditation, there are several free ones available or you can just listen to meditation music or focus on your breathing. There are many classes if you need some help or inspiration to mediate. Soul essence runs a fortnightly Tuesday evening meditation group online via zoom.

Do Something Creative.

There are many adult colouring books available now. Colouring can be very relaxing, as can plain doodling. You can make some lovely patterns doodling. I am sure many of have done this during a boring meeting. This could be helpful if you are at home alone and find it difficult to switch off and need something to do with your hands.

Doing a Walking Meditation.

Go for a walk and really focus on the nature around you, if you are in a town try and find a park. Walking round the block in a town is good too, but keep your focus on what you can hear, smell, and feel. We need to keep our minds in the present on what our senses are picking up.

Breathing

When you are walking home, or doing things outdoors, take some deep breaths into your belly, and look up to the sky, whether it is light or dark, and notice the clouds floating by or the stars shining. By focusing on our breath, it helps us to relax and become calm. Take our attention away from our anxiety and problems.

Social Media

Social Media can be helpful when used for the right reasons. It can also be one of the main causes of anxiety and stress. The more platforms you use the more you are likely to create stress and anxiety.  Set yourself a limit on the social media platforms, either use one of the apps that monitors your time on social media or logout each time. By having to put your password in each time will make you think about why I am logging in. You will realise how much you go on these platforms without thinking and taking in other people negativity.

What Causes Blocks in our Energy?

Blocks in our energy are caused by past minor or major trauma.

This could be anything from constantly being told you were stupid as a child, or more serious physical or sexual abuse. Your parents may have had trauma or abuse in their childhood, which was never healed and they did not realise they were passing this on to their children.

My Personal Story.

At eighteen months I was scalded with boiling tea. I climbed on to a chair to pour my dad a cup of tea while he went to answer the door.

I was rushed to the hospital and placed in a cast and secured in a cot so I could not move.  Parents in the early sixties were not allowed to stay with their children in hospital. I am told I cried all evening and kept the ward awake; the nurses could not console me. As a last resort they phoned my mum, and she came down at 11pm and sang me to sleep. I woke the next morning with no one I knew around me again, still in the cast unable to move. I was in this cast for five days, and in hospital for three weeks. My mum always told me I was a different child when I came home. At school I struggled to mix with others.

Later in life, my fiancé was supposed to collect me from hospital after an operation. He didn’t turn up, I waited for half an hour, then decided to get public transport back to his house. When I got there, he was still in bed, and he could not see the problem with not coming to collect me. I felt abandoned yet again! Over the next few years of my life, I was always finding myself in situations where I was on my own. Somehow, I knew there was more to life and I needed to clear this issue of feeling and attracting abandonment.

When I started to train as an Energy Healer, I realised how much I had shut myself down, I worked with my healer for the three years of training clearing my blocks, so I could create a happier life for myself and others.

What happened in your childhood?

Are there circumstances in your past which maybe sabotaging your future. Writing a timeline of your life can can highlight times when you were sad or hurt and there was no one there for you. The situations which bring up strong emotions, could be affecting your life now. Are you constantly experiencing the same problems, you may feel stuck in a rut. If any of this feels how your life is at the moment, download my Ebook about healing the The Wounded Inner Child. or email for more information.

What is Energy Healing?

The human body is composed of energy, thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and attitudes are also energy. When all the cells, molecules, and tissue, which are energy are superimposed on each other they become the human energy field. These are all vibrating at different frequencies.

Energy Healing

Therefore, energy healing is a way of balancing your energy and chakras, so they vibrate at the best frequency for your health. Everything we do, eat, think, drink affects our energy field. An energy healing session helps to free blocked energy, allowing you to release any negative thoughts and memories of the past, which may be causing blocks and disease.

Human Energy Field/Aura

Our Aura has seven levels, etheric, emotional, mental, astral, template, celestial, and causal, the Energy Field has four levels, the Physical which is our body, the Aura, Intention and Essence.

The Physical level, our body holds the patterns and tensions from the disturbances of the mental and emotional levels in our aura. These disturbances are found in the cellular memory from trauma, and beliefs during our lives.

The seven levels of the Aura are related to the chakras. This level is also our personality or ego and holds both healthy and distorted patterns, which we have developed throughout our life.   It is said disease exists on this level before manifesting in our physical body.

The level of our Intention is our life purpose. We need to align our energy to truth, to allow our life to flow with ease.

The level of Essence is the state of our pure original being. As we go through our healing journey, we display more of our essence. Our essence can be distorted or disguised by our ego.

How a Wounded Inner Child Can Form Addictions

Addictions

These are habitual patterns of behaviour that feed the wounded inner child.

There are three things a child needs in early life.

Structure – A daily schedule of proper diet, sleep, exercise, and appropriate activities

Stimulation – Plenty of fun, adventure, and excitement because this is how children learn.

Nurturing – Daily doses of time attention, affection and direction.

A lack in any one of these areas can cause an irritable infant with a wounded inner child.

The Child’s Ego

This a network of their wants, needs and feelings. There are three primary needs that drive our behaviour. The need to structure our time in a way that helps us fulfil our need for stimulus (touch, intensity and excitement) and position in the family with validation of what is right and wrong.

Children are by nature impulsive, adventuresome, curious and creative; they also want what they want when they want. The three primary needs are observed in the young child when they do not stick to their schedule, get bored, or do not get enough positive attention or approval.

Children who do not get their needs met suffer from the pain of abandonment – something which frequently occurs in dysfunctional families. It, therefore, follows that our child ego is what gets addicted to various activities and objects. When we are in our child ego state we experience ourselves and the world through that part of us.  Inner child authors often refer to this state as the child “driving the bus” in one’s life, which causes considerable pain. Children are not supposed to be in charge of an adult’s life.

Children have little if any impulse control…that’s why we have parents. It’s the Parent ego state that is supposed to keep us out of trouble. If you have ever determined that you were going to stick to a proper diet or begin an exercise program but did not follow through then you have experienced that inner voice that started to chastise you for not doing so — enter the Inner Parent.

It is in our child ego state where bad habits and addictions begin. When the Child takes over “driving the bus” of our life we are heading for a crash. And if our Parent and the Adult Ego States are confined to the back of the bus  you are in for a bumpy ride

Our addictions create shame from the negative consequences of overdoing it with food, drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex and other compulsive addictions. The primary source of shame is our own self-talk which comes from our critical inner voice/parent. We hear things like:-

      • Look what you’ve done now!
      • This is proof that you’ll never amount to anything!
      • You are just a screwed up loser, no good!

We will likely have a strong feeling of not feeling ok, using the addictions to suppress our emotions from our childhood and create more shame and internal critical criticism.

To heal ourselves from these addictions and shame we need to bring the childhood emotions to our consciousness and learn to accept them.

This can be done through energy healing and integral core therapy, for more information on how these can help you contact Rosemary
