How to Nurture Growth in a World That Resists Change

By Soul Essence New Eltham London UK

Change is a natural part of life, yet it often feels difficult—especially when the world around us seems resistant to it. Whether it’s trying to improve yourself, shift unhealthy habits, or create positive change in your community, facing resistance can be frustrating and discouraging. But growth is possible, even when it feels like everything is working against you. By staying patient, focused, and open-minded, you can nurture growth and make meaningful progress, even in challenging times.

Why Change Feels So Hard

Change is uncomfortable because it challenges the familiar. People—and even society—often resist change because it creates uncertainty and forces us to step out of our comfort zones.

  • Fear of the unknown – Not knowing what’s next can make change feel risky and unsettling.
  • Desire for stability – Familiar routines, even unhealthy ones, feel safer than the unknown.
  • External pressure – Friends, family, or work environments may resist change because they prefer things to stay the same.

This resistance can make you question your goals and feel like giving up. But real growth comes from pushing through discomfort and trusting the process.

How to Nurture Growth Despite Resistance

Nurturing growth requires patience, self-belief, and the courage to keep going even when it feels hard. Here are some practical ways to support your growth when you face resistance:

1. Start Small and Build Gradually

Big changes can feel overwhelming, but small, steady steps are easier to maintain and less likely to face resistance.

  • Focus on one small change at a time.
  • If you want to improve your health, start with a 10-minute walk rather than a complete lifestyle overhaul.
  • Small wins build confidence and create momentum over time.

Consistency matters more than speed. Slow but steady growth is sustainable.

2. Stay True to Your Why

Understanding why you want to grow helps you stay motivated, even when things feel tough.

  • Ask yourself, “Why does this change matter to me?”
  • Write down your reasons for growing and keep them where you can see them.
  • When you feel discouraged, remind yourself of your deeper purpose.

A strong sense of purpose keeps you focused when resistance arises.

3. Let Go of External Approval

Not everyone will understand or support your growth—and that’s okay.

  • Focus on how the change makes you feel rather than seeking validation from others.
  • Accept that some people may resist or question your choices.
  • Trust that you know what’s best for you.

Growth isn’t about pleasing others—it’s about honouring your own path.

4. Be Flexible and Adapt

Resistance can be a sign that you need to adjust your approach rather than give up.

  • If a plan isn’t working, try a different method instead of quitting altogether.
  • Stay open to new ideas and approaches.
  • Growth isn’t always a straight line—there will be ups and downs along the way.

Flexibility allows you to keep moving forward, even when you hit obstacles.

5. Practice Self-Compassion

Growth takes time, and setbacks are part of the process.

  • Be kind to yourself when things don’t go as planned.
  • Instead of focusing on what went wrong, focus on what you learned.
  • Celebrate small victories and progress, no matter how minor they seem.

Self-compassion helps you stay motivated and resilient during challenging times.

Thriving in the Face of Resistance

Nurturing growth in a world that resists change requires patience, courage, and trust in yourself. When you start small, stay true to your purpose, and adapt to challenges, you create the conditions for steady, meaningful growth.

Remember, change is not about perfection—it’s about progress. Even when the world pushes back, you have the strength to keep moving forward. Trust that your effort matters, and that growth will come, one small step at a time. 🌱

Spiritual Laws – The Law of Resistance

There are thirty six or more spiritual laws which offer excellent ways for us to understand life on earth, some of the following text has been taken form Diana Cooper’s fantastic book “A Little Light on the Spiritual Laws“. I will briefly explain each law over the coming weeks, if you find this interesting I would encourage you to read Diana’s book.

The Law of Resistance

We invoke the law of resistance unconsciously, our unconscious mind and the universal mind work like computers. We cannot ask a computer not to bring up a file, it cannot accept negative commands. It will assume you do want the file and display it on your screen.
Our conscious mind can discriminate between negative and positive instructions, but our unconscious mind cannot tell the difference. If our conscious mind is fully concentrating on a task like driving, watching TV etc. the unconscious mind may receive a negative message, i.e. ‘don’t you get it wrong’ to the unconscious mind would be ‘get it wrong’. It is far better to always give positive statements like ‘you can get it right’.

‘Don’t’, ‘can’t’, ‘won’t’, or ‘not’ are words that invoke the law of resistance. Saying ‘I don’t want to be ill’, brings the unconscious mind to hear ‘ill’ and your computer (brain) finds a programme to make you ill. It is far better to affirm ‘I am healthy’ which will magnetise health.
When we are feeling angry or guilty we are resisting the joy of life and the magnificence of self.
We have all resisted doing jobs, like ironing until the pile is ridiculously high etc.. Any task appears difficult in direct proportion to our level of resistance.

Quotes from Diana Cooper A Little Light on the Spiritual Laws

“Never resist failure or poverty. Instead attract success and wealth. Always embrace the positive rather than resisting the negative”.
“What you resist persists in your life and drains you of energy. Embrace what you do want and feel alive”.

Understanding these laws can helps us create a happy and joyous life, energy healing can also help us to follow these laws to create wealth and prosperity in our lives, by helping to remove anger, negative beliefs etc..
